The Nicolaus Copernicus University as the only university in Poland is noted in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Golden Age University Rankings 2018. The list includes 200 universities from around the globe, which were founded in 1945-1967, in the aftermath of the Second World War, and have existed for less than 80 years.

The NCU is placed in the range of 151-200.

The analysis covered universities from 44 different countries. The best (as in the previous year) is the University of California, San Diego (USA). From among the European universities, the Free University of Berlin (Germany) is ranked the highest (in 7th place).

The creators of the Golden Age University Rankings 2018 applied the same methodology in the preparation of the ranking as for THE World University Rankings, one of the three most-rated and most widely commented university rankings in the world – alongside the Academic Ranking of World Universities (the so-called Shanghai ranking) and QS World University Rankings. Taking into account three elements of the university’s mission: education, science and knowledge transfer, the higher education institutions were assessed using five basic criteria: teaching, internationalization, research, citations and cooperation with business.

Golden Age University Rankings 2018, whose name refers to the Golden Age in global higher education, was published on June 6, 2018, simultaneously with the Young University Rankings (for universities formed less than 50 years ago).
